The Crow Hill Company release String Murmurations
Last month we got a preview of the new Scottish developer’s intentions with the rather excellent, and free, Vaults Attic Grand Piano, a simple yet expressive felt piano instrument showing off the new approach to musicality.
Today’s announcement of the new String Murmurations library and Christian Henson’s play-through demo video shows the impressive capabilities of the new direction and technology in play. The core approach seems to lean away from masses of microphone recordings and articulations, to a new human emotive focused sampling technique.
Christian says in the promo video these are not phrase recordings, but rather interactive samples that respond to your input, almost allowing you to collaborate with the musicians. To me they sound like very clever phrases, which ordinarily I would run a mile from, but there is no denying the incredible beauty and response the library shows.
Recorded at Clockwork Studio in Glasgow by the Scottish Session Orchestra, the library looks to rely less on microphone options, (of which there are only three; close, wide and ambient), and more toward synthesis and smart processing.
The plugin is free-standing and very contemporary-looking. It’s great news the developers have branched away from the Kontakt platform, this appears to be reflected in the extremely low RRP of $160 UKP.
Shoot over to The Crow Hill Company’s website and watch the promo video and listen through a few demo arrangments, this library is sounding absolutely incredible. And for a first retail release for a new developer, this is extremely exciting stuff.
I can’t wait to see what else is in the works.
