Impact Soundworks’ new Shreddage 3 Hollomatic Gretsch g5120 is sounding great
Released later last year we finally managed to listen through the overview video for Hollomatic and wow, this plugin is sounding excellent.
Shreddage 3 is the flagship guitar virtual instrument collection from US developer Impact Soundworks. Producers will be familiar with the company’s expansive selection of high-end libraries, and until now, what was usually considered metal and hard rock-focused electric guitar and bass emulations. The latest Hollowmatic is a painstaking and detailed recording of a Gretsch G5120 by L.A. musician Josh Workman.
While any guitar is certainly capable of producing high-gain metal tones, the Gretsch brand is typically linked to country and rockabilly artists such as Chet Atkins and Brian Setzer. Other notable users include the Beatles’ George Harrison, Pete Townshend, and more recently, Jack White.
Hollomatic features the same deep sampling, wide range of articulations, realistic performances, customizable keyswitch mapping and strumming, and user-friendly editing that the recently updated Shreddage 3.5 engine is known for. Users who wish to save time and energy can allow the default algorithms to provide realistic and varied fret movement of the virtual hand; those who prefer to customize their performance can choose fretting position and style, picking style, legato and non-legato playing, and string forcing. Hollomatic also includes a range of ready-to-go presets to fit different musical genres.
Virtual instruments, such as Shreddage 3, offer an exceptional avenue for creative exploration through the integration of various effects, amplifiers, and applications, enabling users to seamlessly experiment across a spectrum of genres. This flexibility empowers musicians and producers to break free from constraints, fostering an environment where the plugin becomes a dynamic tool for artistic expression. The capability to experiment with such a breadth of possibilities makes the Shreddage range an indispensable asset for those seeking to push the boundaries of musical creativity and redefine their sonic palette.
“This guitar fills a niche in our lineup that nothing else can,” said Impact Soundworks CEO Andrew Aversa. “It’s an instrument that has enough twang and bite to really wail with light to medium-gain tones, but at the same time can be smooth and mellow with a simple switch of the pickup position. There’s a reason why so many players around the world love it!”
Shreddage 3 Hollomatic is available now for MSRP $159 at the Impact Soundworks store. Existing owners of other Shreddage 3 instruments are eligible for personalized discounts via crossgrade pricing.
